Eldora Mountain Resort added to Vail Resort’s Epic Pass

Eldora Epic Pass

It was announced today that Vail Resorts (NYSE:MTN) will now offer access to the Eldora Mountain Resort as part of the perk of purchasing an Epic Pass. The strategy here would be to capitalize on the proximity of Eldora to Boulder. Coupled with the never ending issues I-70 poses during the winter, it will have an immediate impact on Eldora and Vail Resort’s stock price. “Now our guests have several options to ski close to home,” said Kirsten Lynch, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Vail Resorts, in a statement released Tuesday.

The big concern is whether or not Eldora is going to track out as fast as Breckenridge does now. As the price of the epic pass continues to sky rocket out of control, will people see this as a perk or will this persuade some to simply buy the Eldora pass when they otherwise would not have?

This latest addition to Vail Resort’s offerings comes during a busy 2013 season for VR. Earlier this year Vail Resorts acquired Michigan based Mt. Brighton and the Minnesota based Afton Alps. Vail plans on pumping millions of dollars into these resorts to improve infrastructure and customer experience.

What do you think? Is tacking Eldora Mountain Resort onto the Epic Pass a good thing? Will the snow quality at Eldora suffer? Do you purchase any of the passes in question now?
